Managers & Leaders: Raising our Game.
Final Report of the Council for Excellence in Management and Leadership.
The Council for Excellence in Management and Leadership was appointed in April 2000 by the Secretaries of State for Education and Employment and for Trade and Industry to develop a strategy to ensure that the UK has the managers and leaders of the future to match the best in the world. The Council was asked to look at both management and leadership; to consider the public and the private sectors; and to look at demand for management and leadership development and its supply through business schools, FE Colleges and private providers.
This report highlights the research, thinking and recommendations of the members of the Council, chaired by Sir Anthony Cleaver. It introduces the strategy which the Council is recommending to Government to tackle the significant mismatch we have found between the need for management and leadership skills, and their demand and supply; a strategy whose rationale lies in the explicit link which we make between good management and leadership and performance.
