Characteristics of the Management Population in the UK: Overview Report
Sadie Williams, (2002)
The size of the management population has been variously estimated. Different studies use different definitions of 'management' and some include wider categories than others. This can lead to particular problems when making international comparisons. For example, in the UK junior managers at the supervisory level may be classified occupationally with those they supervise when this is often not the case in other countries with whom the UK is compared (Brown 1999). These problems with classification make it difficult to form reliable estimates of the numbers of managers.
