Towards Management and Leadership in the Professions
Jeff Gold (2002)
This report provides a review of an attempt to engage with a number of Professional Associations (PAs) and other organisations from September 2001 to January 2002.
The overall aim of the project is to engage with Professional Associations in the development of a management and leadership skills strategy for their profession.
The objectives are:
a. to identify professional associations for engagement
b. to contact and meet with key personnel to diagnose the key requirements
for the development of a management and leadership skills strategy
c. to seek adoption and utilisation of an 'irreducible core' of management
and leadership skills for the professions by professional associations
d. to provide ongoing support in the development of the strategy
e. to report the findings of the work to the Professions Working Group of
CEML
We sought to engage with a variety of PAs and co-coordinating bodies such
as National Training Organisations and Councils. Meetings were held with the
appointed representatives to gather information on their work in management
and leadership and to explain the work of the Professions Working Group and
CEML. The 'irreducible core' of management and leadership skills for the professions
was presented. Assistance was offered to representatives to make further progress
including facilitation of a workshop was offered to develop an understanding
of the 'irreducible core'
